The Star Wars universe has been thriving on Disney+, as the streaming service has found new and creative ways to capture the magic of a galaxy far, far away. Among the Star Wars projects owned by the service Star Wars: The Helper, a show billed as a martial arts-influenced mystery thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of dark secrets and dark side forces emerging in the last days of the High Republic era. The show is also said to be looking into casting a young black girl (and possibly identical twins) to portray the 8-10-year-old to play Merry, who is described as the main guest star.
Hedland explained during a previous interview with Fantastic Frankie. “I’m attached to male characters all the time. I’m a root for Mando. I’m a root for Luke…inclusive means inclusive space. But at the same time, I think just because something has a protagonist doesn’t necessarily mean it’s only for women.”
“I kind of see, if Star Wars is a religion…I like to think of my show as a tent revival,” Hedland continued. “You can come if you want to. We’ll talk about some cool stuff. There will be some things we haven’t discussed in the canon yet. There are going to be some characters you don’t know about. I’d like you to join us. I’d like you to be interested in it. If not—” The great thing about Star Wars right now is that there’s a lot to go along with and invest in, but if you don’t like it, that’s okay.”
